Do you find it difficult to network with influencers?
Yes? No? Maybe?
Surprisingly, it’s not as difficult as it appears.
Even if you’re a brand-spanking new marketer, you can effectively network with influencers and use that connection to:
- Grow your brand and your blog
- Increase your subscribers
And isn’t that what we all want?
In this post, I’ll show you a proven formula to find and connect with influencers on demand.
But First … a Quick Story
When I started blogging, I made the most knuckle-headed decision I could ever make.
I tried to make it on my own.
Foolish, I know.
Being the introvert that I was, I believed that I could:
- Get traffic to my blog on a consistent basis
- Find targeted readers eager to convert into subscribers
- Build an engaging community
All without ever having to network with anyone.
Boy, was I wrong.
It took me months of failing and reading other posts to realize that I just couldn’t do it. But, I realized something else too.
Every successful blog that I read, that blogger had to get help to ultimately make it.
More specifically, they need to …
The Truth No One Tells You About Influencers
Answer this honestly …
Do you think that influencers are in it for themselves?
That they only allow a few people into their success circle each year? That they discover all these proven techniques to make money, get more customers, etc. and keeps it a secret?
Or only share it with others in their circle?
Here’s the truth:
Influencers want to share their tricks and techniques with you.
Because if you use one of their techniques and achieve spectacular results, it makes them look good. Makes sense?
That’s why Brian Dean shared his SkyScraper Technique:
And why Bryan Harris openly shares his formulas:
Same thing for Ramit Sethi:
Think about it.
But even if you don’t use their strategies, you can still connect and build relationships with them. You just need to approach them the right way.
And that involves following 3 simple steps…
Step #1: First, Find Influencers You Want to Connect With
Seems pretty obvious, right?
To connect with influencers, you have to find influencers to connect with. But, you need to find and connect with the right ones.
First thing is to make a list of all the bloggers that have influence, that’s in your niche.
You can go to a site like Followerwonk to find out exactly who the authorities are in your specific niche.
First, go to FollowerWonk and click on on ‘Search Bios’:
Type in a specific phrase you’re looking for:
Lastly, search through the list that populates to find a whole list of influencers to connect with:
The key thing to remember is connecting with the right one(s).
This means spending time researching their profiles, “stalking” their blogs and monitoring the types of content they typically share.
Step #2: Next, Organize the List of Influencers
This might sound simple, but stay with me…
After you spend the time researching, you want to create a spreadsheet to organize your list. This will essentially be the main list of influencers you want to connect and build relationships with.
Start by using Excel (or Google Drive) to create a spreadsheet with a list of influential blogs in your niche.
Just so you know, the finding the email address will be the most difficult field to fill in.
Some influencers will have it readily available on their site, or social media profiles, but that’s not always the case.
If that doesn’t produce any results, you have two options:
- Messaging them on a contact form they may have on their site.
- Reaching out to them the social media platform they’re most active on and asking them how you can get in touch with them.
Step #3: Build The Connection
You found the influencers you want to connect with and their contact information too.
Now is where it starts to get serious — contacting them.
But here’s the thing:
You need to get to know them BEFORE you even contact them. Basically, become a borderline stalker and get on their radar.
And the best way to do that, is by reading a post and “greasing the wheels” with a personalized thank you.
Something like this would work pretty well:
My name is [your name] and I just wanted to stop by and let you know that I really enjoyed your post [Name Of Post] and just wanted to let you know how much it really [inspired/motivated/related to] me.
[Two sentences explaining how]
I loved it so much that I decided to share this post with some people who could also benefit from it.
Thank you for writing something that has made such a difference to my life.
Hope you have a great week.
Send that message to influencers, and you’ll get responses back from them.
Note: The thing about ANY influencer, is that they want to know that they’re appreciated. So by doing something like that, you immediately stand out.
But, don’t stop there.
Continue reading their blog posts. Comment every chance you get. Share their content across various social media platforms.
Become a presence on every platform that they’re on.
And when the time is right, and you want something from them, move in for the kill.
Example #1: Sharing Your Content
You have content you want to be shared.
Rather than sharing on the usual social media platforms, reach out to an influencer you’re connecting with. This is the best time to test if the time you spent adding value to their brand is paying off.
If you wanted them to share your content, the following script works well:
“Hey [Influencers Name]
I’ve been reading a lot of your content for a while now and I really loved your post [Name Post]. I noticed that you have a strong interest in [Topic] and I just wanted to give you a heads up about a post I just put together revolving around that topic.
Do you mind if I send you the link?
Keep up the great work and I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
Realistically, you won’t get a response from all of the influencers you send this to — but even a couple of them responding positively is a HUGE win.
Example #2: Get Them to Participate in Something
Perhaps you want to create an interview series your readers will thoroughly enjoy.
Here’s a sample email script you could use for getting an interview:
My name is [Your Name] and I’ve been an active participant on your blog for [amount of time]. I especially loved your post about [name post].
The reason for my message today is because I’ve been working on [Insert project] and was wondering if you would be willing to participate.
I know you’re a busy person and most likely would have a lot of your own projects to work on, but if you did have the time I would really appreciate it. I look forward to hearing back from you.
Thank you again, [Influencer].
P.S. What is your biggest need right now? I’m so passionate about what you are doing and would love to help you.”
Regarding the P.S., this is a better way of saying “Please let me know if there’s anything I can do for you” and it works.
The more opportunities you have to connect with influencers like that, the greater your business and your brand will grow.
Because to be successful, it’s not about you or the great content you create – it’s about the relationships you build with the right people and how they can ultimately help you succeed.
What You Should Takeaway From This
The more you network with bloggers and people with influence, the more it will:
- Build your reputation and status, and
- Increase your traffic which could potentially lead to even more traffic and down the road even more sales.
All you have to do is go and find a list of influencers in your niche and start making an effort to read their blogs, comment on their posts and share their posts.
It may take a little while, but if you’re consistent, you’ll see results from your hard work.
And once you master it, you’ll be truly amazed at the results because of networking.
Your brand will grow.
Your business will grow.
And you’ll be well on your path to using your connections to build a popular blog people can’t stop talking about. That’s what you want, isn’t it?
Now Here’s What I Want You To Do Next
It’s important to me that you implement this strategy to grow your business.
I want you to actually use the information to connect and build relationships with influencers.
The main question is, do you?
If the answer is yes, get started on step #1 right away.
